A new band are about
to hit your radar and
you may want to watch
out before they sneak up
on you and ambush you
completely. With the
rise of girl fronted
punk groups such as Yeah
Yeah Yeah’s and Be Your
Own Pet, in a way not
seen since the 70’s with
acts such as Blondie,
The Transmitters are the
latest on the scene. I
mention the 70’s as it
is this era as it seems
to be the influence for
their sound and even
their name, an American
punk band in 1976. Track
one ‘Dirty Sister’ opens
with a Buzzcocks style
hook and continues with
the screaming intensity
of a howler monkey with
piles. ‘Creep’ features
a far more raw vocal
performance from lead
singer Sarah Coombs
whilst ‘Suck this’
builds a frantically
charged drum beat that
will have you scenesters
pogoing around the next
venue they play. The
anger and energy
continues with ‘Panic’
which features the
lyrics ‘No escape from
this rollercoaster’. At
the rate this group are
racking up support, it
seems no one would want
to.
