If
2006 was the year that
rock stopped hiding from
the Y chromosome then
one of the biggest
injustices was the
virtual ignorance of The
Grates.
Patience Hodgson is
undoubtedly the star
Beth Ditto always
dreamed of been way back
in her mom’s caravan.
With vocals verging on
Karen O, but with more
youthful exuberance,
combined to always
brilliant handclaps this
is an album highlight.
If this timeless guitar
pop doesn’t get you
skipping around your
stereo then you’re not
worthy of The Grates. If
it does, track down the
album ‘Gravity Won’t Get
You High’ for more gems.
