Having grown up on a diet of Depeche Mode, Human League and Cabaret Voltaire, listening to Paw Paw’s latest offering certainly evoked some 80’s memories, but with a twist…

Electro, although very hard to pin down to a particular genre these days, has managed to dip in and out of the mainstream over the decades. Paw Paw’s beautiful harmonies, catchy pop tunes and slightly sinister techno sounds, merge together to achieve a sound that certainly has the ability to do this.

In an industry that’s saturated with guitar bands, this London three-piece show how keyboards and drum machines can create something that stands out from the crowd. First single ‘Wired OK’ is a pulsating electro fusion mixed with magical harmonies, which grab you by the shirt collar and refuse to let go. I admit, it may have taken me a couple of listens, but now I’m hooked!

Frontman James Cabooter takes care of the main vocal, which is dreamily complemented by Eve Shuttleworth and Zoe Crook (sister of MacKenzie). ‘Strange Reaction’ sees the girls elevated to the front, producing some of the most dreamy, yet strangely psychotic, vocals I’ve heard in years.

Describing themselves as the “missing link between Heaven 17 and Junior Boys” and with a video produced by MacKenzie Crook himself, let’s hope ‘Wired OK’ gets the airplay it deserves. A must for all fans of modern electro.
