Friday night and the
north east’s indie
ravesters are making
their way to Northumbria
University’s Student
Union for a party with
the Klaxons. Gold
lamé leggings, 80’s
dresses, hoodies, glo-sticks
and neon face paint are
all par for the course
for these crazy kids.
“It’s
a refreshing change not
to have to ask for ID”
the barman jokes and
looking around discover
that I am in comparison
an old age pensioner.
Locating a gap in the
crowd behind some short
people l limber up my
old bones ready for the
support (Shy Child)
I’m subsequently
showered with the inner
contents of several glo-sticks,
and as a result I feel duly initiated
and welcomed onboard the
Klaxon Mothership.
The lights go down and
fresh from the headline
slot on 'The Wall Of
Sound Shock Rock Tour' in
February New York duo ‘Shy
Child’ fire up.
Heavy syncopated beats
from drummer Nate,
electro laden synths and
jerky stop start vocals
from Pete on keyboard
exhibit a commanding
electro funk-punk force.
There’s nothing shy or
childlike about these boyo’s that’s for sure.
They are an awesome
support choice setting
the Klaxons up very
nicely and no doubt
earning themselves a few
more fans along the way.
Stand out tracks were
‘Drop the Phone’ and
‘Noise Wont Stop.

Thousands of light years
go by and eventually
the 4 Horsemen of 2012
appear on stage to
deafening screams and
applause of their
fans. A brief moment of
guitar tuning, a pause
and then unleashing ‘The
Bouncer’ the Klaxons blast
through their ‘Myths’
album, each song
receiving jubilant
bouncing (and much glo
stick throwing & waving) appreciation from
devoted fans and dance
music lovers alike.
’Atlantis to Interzone’
unashamedly follows and one track
after another the
onslaught continued.
Massive crowd pleasers
were (of course) sacred
anthems ‘Magick’,
‘Gravity’s Rainbow’ and
‘GoldenSkans’.‘Isle of
Her’ and ‘Two Receivers’
were personal
favourites.
It’s clear the Klaxons’
relentless gigging has
paid off. Any
reservations about how
well the album
translates live are
literally blown away.
As soon as the Klaxons
appear they disappear leaving
their ecstatic
wide eyed and sweaty,
young fans resembling
survivors of a remarkable
alien abduction. Til the
next time...
