When I started
reading the introduction
to Mary Abraham, I
wasn’t exactly hopeful
that I would ‘connect
with her music’. After
all, she was coming from
the same birth place to
that of Eminem. So when
I heard the energetic
introduction to first
song, Hey Love, my
sprits lift. I am a
devoted fan to all happy
girl pop, and this just
might tick that box.
Fresh from her job
as an Events
Co-ordinator and
Promotions Assistant,
Mary Abraham puts her
life experiences into
her lyrics and that
shines through,
Particularly in Entropy
where she sings about
life difficulties that
there is no control
over.
Her songs are very
focused on love issues,
varying from that
dreaded ex (Someone like
You) to falling back in
love (Fall On Your
Knees).
A variation of
upbeat tracks to
cool-down ballads, Mary
Abraham has a diverse
selection of both music
and lyrics, and for this
she could branch out to
many new people than her
predecessors in
folk-pop, which is what
she aims to do.
I can’t say Mary Abraham
is a new phenomenon, in
which we will all
stumble into an Arctic
Monkeys-esque craze for,
however if you are a fan
of the independent
‘girl-with-a-guitar’
tracks, and lyrics
that’ll make you nod and
laugh, I think this’ll
tickle your musical
taste buds.
