Review: " Musique
Magnifique " by The
Procession

Release Date 16th April
2007
This
debut release from this
trio is a big fat slice
of retro psychedelic
pop. It has a smiley
fun and sunshine quality
that perhaps resulted
from the bands
relocation to LA for the
recording of this
record. The result is a
sound that is simply
infectious and seems to
harp back to a simpler
time when everything
including music was just
less complicated. The
downside of this retro
love feast is that you
do spend the whole album
thinking that every song
reminds you of something
you have heard before
and this album has
clearly been modelled on
a number of 60’s band
without doubt there are
shades of the Small
Faces and Hermans
Hermits but it just
avoids being cheesy and
sounding like something
from the sound track to
an Austin Powers film
(Groovy Baby – Yeah!’).
The
songs really are
infectiously catchy and
upbeat and even on a
grey and raining day
they are guaranteed to
put a smile on your
face, tracks like Major
and Minor and MTV Song
will have you humming
along. Whilst my
personal favourites
‘Living Alone’ and the
first single from the
album ‘Don’t Hesitate’
with its jingly piano
chords is an excellent
introduction to the
band..
